20 JAPANESE VOLUNTEERS ARRIVE IN TANZANIA

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatches Japanese volunteers to Tanzania 3 times a year through its programme of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV). The programme commenced in 1967.

On 28th June 2011, 20 young volunteers arrived in the country from Japan. The details of such volunteers are below.Out of the 20 volunteers, 3 of them are primary school teachers and will be dispatched to schools in Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Iringa. They will mostly be involved in teaching mathematics and physical education subjects.

At present there are 24 secondary school Japanese volunteer teachers who teach mathematics and science in the country, and many of them have to cope with the common problem which faces many Tanzanian students namely the lack of adequate level in basic mathematics.

These new primary school Japanese teachers are expected to improve the level of understanding and ability in basic mathematics at the primary education level.
